Transcript

Angelina Jolie was born in Los Angeles, on the 4th June 1975. Growing up there, she was no stranger to the film industry, being the daughter of two established actors, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. In the mid-1990s, Angelina appeared in various music videos and small films, where she got good reviews. However, her career began to improve after her performance as in the 1997 biopic George Wallace, for which she won her first Golden Globe Award. She had her major break in 1999 in The Bone Collector. In the same year she won the triple crown - the Golden Globe, the SAG Award and the Academy Award for best leading actress in a supporting role - with her performance in Girl, Interrupted.

During the filming of one episode of the saga of Lara Croft, she had a moving experience in Cambodia, subsequently adopting the first of her three adopted children. She then became an international diplomat and now she spends most of her time in humanitarian efforts financed by her acting.

Since 2005 she has been going steady with Brad Pitt, father of her biological children. Their first daughter was born in 2006, and in July 2008 they had twins, a boy and a girl. Their story became one of the most reported celebrity relationships worldwide.

Now, here are some things you may or may not know about this most famous actress:

  • She is Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
  • She has been married twice, both times to actors.
  • When she first married she wore black leather pants and a white shirt. On the white shirt she painted her husband's name in her own blood!
  • The name 'Brangelina', for her latest love story, comes from the combination of the names Brad and Angelina.
  • She loves tattoos. In fact, at the moment she has 13 of them. When starring in a film, her extensive collection is usually covered with makeup.
  • She has a tattoo of the coordinates representing the locations where her children were born on her left arm.
  • Dumbo the flying elephant is her favourite Disney character.
  • "Jolie" means "pretty" in French.
  • During her childhood, she dreamt of becoming a funeral director.
  • Her exotic good looks may derive from her mixed ancestry, which is Czech, French-Canadian, Iroquois and English.
